Ojo emerges Osun PDP acting chairman

Niyi Akande, Osogbo

Ex Osun East Senatorial Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Wale Ojo, on Friday emerged state chairman of the party.

Ojo was adopted as the new chairman by the faction of the party backing Mr. Soji Adagunodo, the current South West Vice chairman of the party at a stakeholders' meeting held in Osogbo.

The meeting was attended by three out of six aspirants for the party's 2022 governorship election namely; Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Mr. Sanya Ominrin, and ex secretary to the state government, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after he emerged as the acting chairman, Ojo, explained that his emergence followed the resignation of Adagunodo, who has since been appointed as the new South West Vice Chairman of the party.

He said, "I was Senatorial chairman of PDP in Osun East until today. I have just been appointed as the acting chairman of PDP in Osun state in line with the relevant provision of the constitution of our party.

"Also, there was a judgement of an Osun High Court, sitting in Ile-Ife that says Soji Adagunodo is that confirmed PDP chairman in Osun. But he has moved on. He has become PDP chairman in South West. Section 45, 2 and 4 of our party says, when the chairman resigns, the Vice Chairman from the zone where the chairman hails from will take over."

But when contacted, Oladele Oluwabamiji, the Director of Media and Strategy of a faction of PDP backed by Senator Ademola Adeleke, said there was a procedure before leadership change can occur.

Oluwabamiji said the emergence of Ojo was unknown to majority members of PDP in the state, and added, "nominating someone as chairman is not an all comer affair. They are living true to insinuation against them that they are working for APC."
