Buhari's success in 2019 will give Yoruba presidency in 2023, Osinbajo declares

Nigeria's Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on declared the Yoruba are the ones who will will determine if another Yoruba man will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The Vice President made the declaration on Staturday while speaking at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, noting that President Buhari is no doubt a man who stands by his worlds.

In the company of the Vice President were Governor Abiola Ajimobi, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, former Senate leader, Senator Teslim Folarin and Hon. Akeem Adeyemi who represents Atiba/ Afijio/Oyo East/Oyo West in the House of Representatives.

Osinbajo said he was in the palace  of the Alaafin to pay homage to the monarch and drink from his wealth of his experience and knowledge.

Osinbajo who pleaded with the Yoruba to work for the success of President Buhari in the 2019 election, maintained that it will take a very long time for any Yoruba man to get the Presidency if Presieent Buhari fails to return in 2019.

He maintained that Buhari has performed well and deserved another term in the office.

He said that Buhari since he came to power in 2015 has proved to be a man who has zero tolerance for corruption which he described  as one of the major problems in Nigeria.

Osinbajo said, "It is good to pay homage to the palace. I greet you the king, I greet the Alaafin of Oyo and other traditional rulers here present. Anytime I come to the Kabiesi either here or Abuja, I say it is home coming.

"The 2019 general elections is our own. We are not looking at the 2019 but 2023. If we get it in 2019, Yoruba will get it in 2023. Because if we don't get it in 2019, we may not get it in 2023 and it may take a very long time to get it. We need to look at tomorrow and not because of today. What we are doing now is for tomorrow and not for today".

Describing Buhari as an honest man who stands by his word, Vice President Osinbajo said, "What I know about Buhari is that he is an honest man. What he says he will do, he will do it".

He urged the people of the southwest not to return the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) again saying that Buhari has laid a foundation to put Nigeria on the right path.

Osinbajo added "Now, they are regrouping. These are the people that have ruled for 16 years and they say they want to come back again. They are corrupt. Though, it is still difficult because no man or woman can build a house without a foundation".

Oba Adeyemi earlier in his address described Osinbajo as a cerebral lawyer who has excelled in his profession.

The Alaafin said, "He is a good lawyer, the case he instituted on behalf of Lagos state when the federal government withheld the local government allocations in Lagos state during Obasanjo regime, he won the case. And it was Yar'adua that paid the money to Lagos state. The load you are carrying is big, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, you will succeed".
