Herdsmen attack: Police declare Iyapo Ayodeji Olakunle wanted

One Iyapo Ayodeji Olakunle, has been declared wanted for alleged complicity in the attack by Fulani herdsmen on Numa Village, Nassarawa State, which claimed 16 lives.

Three neighboring communities to Numa also in Nassarawa state were also raided by the herdsmen that attacked the area.

It will be recalled that 16 persons were reportedly  killed  by Fulani herdsmen in Numa community on April 14,2019.

The victims of the April 14,2019 Fulani herdsmen attack which left Numa community in shock were mostly people of Mada ethnic group in Nassarawa state, some of whom have abandoned the community in fear.

Beside the cold-blood killing of the victims in Numa community and its environs, there was also destruction of farmlands and properties worth millions of naira.

It was further learnt that Iyapo Ayodeji Olakunle, an extension officer with the Ministry of Agriculture, was resident in the community with his family before the attack.

Iyapo was however considered culpable in the attack leading to the killing of 16 persons as confessional statements obtained from some of those arrested in connection with the crime established Iyapo's involvement in the attack.

Security sources, that pleaded anonymity sais all suspects arrested in connection with the killing in Numa community died mysteriously while in detention.

The cause of the death, however remain known, although recent police reports after completing  investigation into the killing of 16 persons in Numa community, maintained that there was concrete evidence to prove the complicity of the extension officer in the crime.

A press statement issued the police on the matter reads in parts, "After due investigation into the dastardly killing of 16 persons on April 14 2019 by herdsmen in Numa community and its environs, the police from its findings gathered that a suspect simply identified as Iyapo Ayodeji Olakunle,an extension officer with the ministry of agriculture had questions to answer.

"We are appealing to members of the general public with useful information that could lead to his arrest to please come forward with such information as it would be treated with utmost confidentiality while a handsome reward awaits the person."

There were however concerns over the whereabouts of the Extension Officer and the mysterious deaths of other suspects while in detention.

Police operatives in charge of the matter had been accused of having hands in the death of the suspects while still being detained.
